With Deep Dish Bournemouth kicking off again, we would love to introduce you to all of the amazing coaches that will be leading our sessions this summer! Check out our series of interviews with our coaches to get to know them better, and remember to book into sessions to get coached by them while you can!

Next up.... TODOR TOPALOV !

How long have you been coaching ?

This will be my second year of consistent beach volleyball coaching.

Can you tell us a bit about your career?

I have been playing volleyball for 13 years. I started playing in Bulgaria, then volleyball took me to England, where I competed in BUCS (both indoor and beach), and am currently playing in Luxembourg. I am currently back in England for the summer season, coaching with DeepDish Bournemouth as well as competing in the UK Beach Tour.

What are you most looking forward to this summer with Deep Dish Bournemouth?

I am very excited about the Club Championship this year! It was an amazing event last summer, so I can’t wait to represent DeepDish Bournemouth this year and am really hoping to see our local community competing at the event as well! Hopefully we can bring it home this year!

Do you have a favourite drill or skill to coach?

I really enjoy coaching the basics. Building a strong foundation is crucial because it sets you up for success in beach volleyball, just like in any other sport. Think of it like building a house – if the foundation is weak, the whole structure is at risk of collapsing.

Why should players join us at Deep Dish Bournemouth?

We offer something for every skill level, right on the beach! Our training program is all about fun, skill development, and being part of a tight-knit community.

Best advice or top tip for up and coming beach volleyball players or beginners wanting to get into the sport?

Focus on consistency and practice. Make time to play regularly and work on your skills. Also, beach volleyball is all about adapting to different conditions and working together with your partner. So, hit the beach often, and have fun while improving your game!

What is a life changing book/movie/quote that you highly recommennd to other people?

"Goals are good for setting a direction, but systems are best for making progress."

-  “Atomic Habits” by James Clear
