JUNIOR INDOOR VOLLEYBALL GRAND PRIX ROUND 2 RECAP

Our U16 Juniors have just smashed through their second round of the U16 Junior Volleyball Grand Prix with outstanding results!

Last weekend our two U16 Indoor Volleyball Boys teams and our U16 Girls team took to the court in the second round in the top level of junior volleyball competition and made Deep Dish very proud with their performance at the last competitive event 2023 before resuming in January 2024. Check out the individual team results below.

TIER 1 U16 BOYS | 2ND PLACE

After winning the preliminary round the Tier 1 boys team found themselves in Gold Pool C. They would be facing Richmond B, Lynx and host Boswell’s. Winner of this pool would qualify for the ‘Last 8’s” competition a round early and guarantee their chance of competing for a national finals spot.

The team performed well against Richmond B and Lynx with two 2-0 victories. Tomo and Lewis provided stability with great passing, whilst Ethan, Orin and Stanley scored freely through the middle. Some outstanding serving from Otto also ensured that the team pulled away from the opposition.

The last game of the day was against Boswells, A fierce match played by both clubs with Bailey leading the attacking charge. Rei performed some incredible defenses throughout the match. Stan moving to the opposite position strung together some key blocks. Boswell's home advantage with its loud support took advantage eventually with Boswells winning 2-0.

Coach Mark Garcia-Kidd had this to say: “Extremely proud of the team and its performance today, I think our match against Boswells has just shown the areas we need to work on and as such provides us with a great opportunity to improve. The team played well in all matches and because of that we have qualified for Last 8’s a round early and will be playing in the Platinum pool next, against the best U16 teams. The higher the level the better it is for us when Last 8’s come.”

TIER 1 U16 GIRLS | 4TH PLACE

The tier 1 girls travelled to Worthing to compete in the Bronze pool against Worthing Cheetas and Westminster.

They got of to a great start in a tight match Vs Worthing Cheetas, loosing narrowly in a nail biting second set 26-28!

Although they also lost a tough game to Westminster, the girls showed great team spirit, a few killer blocks from Veronica and ace serves from Ava & Polly! Coach Ella said "I am so proud to see how quickly this team has developed and grown in the last couple of months. This is only the start!"

TIER 2 U16 BOYS | CANCELLED

Unfortunately the Tier 2 squad had its tournament canceled at the last minute meaning they were unable to play this weekend, they will next compete on Saturday 28th January.

However a large part of this team are U15’s and this means that they will be playing U15 Tier 1 in the new year. As a club we are really excited to be entering this group into a Tier 1 Competition.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OUR JUNIOR BOYS AND GIRLS FOR AN OUTSTANDING WEEKEND!
