Covid-19 hit us all in a way we could never have imagined. We were stripped of our freedom when told to stay indoors, some were put under tremendous financial pressure when jobs were lost or income streams were completely diminished. Plans went out the window, we faced loneliness, frustration, anger and sadness to name a few emotions. Worst of all some of us lost loved ones far too early. Covid-19 will continue to affect us all over the next few months and years.
We at Deep Dish wanted to reach out and say a massive heart felt thank you to each and every one of you for not only supporting us through this time but also for once again showing what an amazing group of people the beach volleyball community are. You all truly are awesome!
With events, travel and sports being majorly hit by the restrictions, this meant we had to cancel everything on the Deep Dish calendar. The Portugal camp was the first to go in April. We had 250 students from around the UK signed up to join us for the University Tour this year and our hearts go out to each and every one of them, not only because they were unable to get away for their Easter Break but also for the difficulties they have faced with Universities closing down, exams, assignments and so much more! After the University Tour we had over 100 players signed up to the Portugal Training Camp. Following the news you all showed an unbelievable amount of support and we thank you for that despite all of the hardships you must have been facing yourself. We can now happily say that all of the 350 players signed up to Portugal have either been fully refunded or have transferred their entries to the next camp.
We had to cancel our new series of events and training clinics we had planned in Crystal Palace and Bournemouth. Also our amazing club had to be suspended and we haven't got to see your lovely faces every summer evening.
ENOUGH of the negative and let's now focus on the positive! We have been working to make sure that when we get the green light from the government and around the world that we are ready to give you the beach volleyball you deserve!
PORTUGAL TRAINING CAMP 2020
We have moved the 2020 Portugal Training to the 3rd - 10th October. We are just putting the finishing touches to the camp and are happy to hear reports that international travel will be recommencing early July with a potential air bridge being created between UK and Portugal. A number of campers who were signed up for the April camp have already transferred over and we will officially be opening up entries very soon to those who fancy an end of Summer getaway!
CRYSTAL PALACE BEACH COURTS
We are currently working with the sports centre to ensure that when the courts are reopened they are done so in a safe and responsible way. The provisional opening dates for the courts will be early July and we are currently working on putting together a timetable for club sessions and court hire.
TRAINING CLINICS & EVENTS
We hope the government guidelines will start to allow small events to take place in a controlled environment soon, but until then we are holding off on planning any in. We will be sure to bring you competitions and clinics as soon as we are allowed :).
GRAN CANARIA TRAINING CAMP 2021
We are extremely close to confirming Gran Canaria 2021. These small intimate camps taking place in January proved a huge hit in our debut year this year and we cannot wait to get back to the beautiful resort of Anfi Del Mar! Be sure to get your entries in early as spaces will be limited to 24 each week.
PORTUGAL 2021
We are putting the finishing touches on an epic Portugal 2021 camp. The camp will include 2 x weeks of University Tour, our famous training camp and a few surprises. Stay tuned for the dates!
